5 Things to do in Washington DC for Under $40

by Mia Orantes, 24houragent

I’ve traveled the world. However, it always takes about a week for me to get homesick. There is no doubt that Washington is the world’s greatest city. Celebrity, diversity, tourist attractions galore – there is always something to do with the kids (even when you’re on a budget). Here is a rundown of the top 25 things I like to do when my pockets are a little sad…

1) Visit the National Zoo
See seals, monkeys, and snakes – all while you get pooped on by Elephants (it happened to my niece – DAMN I wish I had a photo)! The National Zoo is open year-round, except on Christmas Day. Enjoy the Zoo Lights festival in the winter and take great pictures!

Cost: Admission is FREE!

2) Visit the National Air & Space Museum
One of the coolest museums on Earth (little boys love it!), the National Air & Space Museum is home to the largest historic aircraft and spacecraft collection. Get up close and personal with the Apollo 11 command module, a lunar rock sample, and the original Wright 1903 Flyer! Past exhibitions have included a Star Wars exhibit, a historical journey into international flight history, commercial airliners – just to name a few…

Cost: FREE docent-led tours occur daily; Special Event tickets at the Theaters and Planetarium are usually under $10/person
